Just because the government is paying doesn’t give them the right to override the autonomy of universities and run them according to their whims.” This is the case in Britain.” This is a quote from Nobelist Amartya Sen,  following his resignation as head of a new elite  university, Nalanda Univeristy in India. I find the final sentence ambiguous. The problem in the UK is that universities are increasingly not independent of the whims of government. [direct link to this page]
