Ervin Epstein in the Preface to Controversies in Dermatology, 1984

The difference between a clinician and an academician, basically, is the experience of 200 to 400 patient visits a week. Most academicians practice dermatology but on a limited scale. Yet the tail is definitely wagging the dog that we call dermatology.

This quote has bugged me for years. Is it true?
